Dover, New Hampshire - The girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to Dover to play against Portsmouth Christian Academy (PCA) on Wednesday. The Lady Lakers came out of the gate with a slow start as PCA got an early goal to put the score up 1-0 in the first ten minutes. Sooner rather than later, the Lady Lakers gained more possession and found the back of the net. A cross from senior Brynn Smith found the feet of Junior Izzy Correa to tie up the game. The Lady Lakers struggled to find attackers up top to gain a lead. Senior defender Calla Baker kept the ball in front and had strong, sturdy, tackles. The midfield struggled to find their attackers as PCA flooded the middle and double-teamed both Brynn Smith and Senior Elizabeth Tschudin. The Lady Lakers ended the first half with a 1-1 tie.
The Lady Lakers came out stronger in the second half with more 50/50 wins and ball control. Senior Brie Hughlock kept balls in front and distributed the ball outside, then to our attack. The Lady Lakers pressured the PCA defense and eventually earned a PK (penalty kick), Senior Brynn Smith scored the PK. The Lady Lakers dropped more defensively and kept the score 2-1 to end the game.
The Lady Lakers struggled throughout the game, but eventually picked up the intensity and pulled out the win. The Lady Lakers improve to 3-1 on the season and look to travel back to Sunapee and practice hard to improve for another hard game away at Concord Christian on Friday.
